India and Japan have signed their first-ever defence technology co-development agreement, partnering to develop a next-generation stealth naval radio antenna based on Japan's advanced UNICORN integrated mast system.
The collaboration marks a major milestone in bilateral defence ties, moving beyond joint exercises towards the joint development of critical military technologies. Designed to enhance stealth, communications, electronic warfare, and situational awareness, the integrated antenna system is expected to be incorporated into future Indian Navy warships.
The agreement builds on years of defence cooperation between the two nations and reflects their shared commitment to strengthening maritime security, technological innovation, and a free, open, and rules-based Indo-Pacific. The project also supports India's drive for indigenous capability development through international collaboration under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.Thursday, July 09, 2026
