Prime Minister Narendra Modi has commenced a six-day visit to Indonesia, Australia and New Zealand, aimed at deepening India's strategic engagement across the Indo-Pacific through enhanced defence, technology and economic cooperation.
A key highlight of the tour is the proposed BrahMos supersonic cruise missile deal with Indonesia, alongside discussions on artificial intelligence collaboration and the integration of India's UPI with Indonesia's QRIS digital payment system. The visit also seeks to strengthen maritime security and reinforce India's Act East Policy and MAHASAGAR vision.
In Australia, discussions will focus on expanding defence industry collaboration, maritime security and trade, while the New Zealand visit is expected to advance bilateral cooperation in defence, commerce and people-to-people ties.
The three-nation tour underscores India's growing role as a strategic security partner and technology leader, while further strengthening regional partnerships and promoting indigenous defence exports across the Indo-Pacific.Thursday, July 09, 2026
