Air India has outlined significant growth plans, including an expanded fleet and new infrastructure projects. According to a press release, the airline is adding 100 aircraft to its order book, supplementing a previous commitment for 470 aircraft announced in 2023.
The airline plans to support its growing fleet with a 12-bay maintenance facility and a maintenance training school in Bengaluru, along with a 34-aircraft flight training school in Amravati and a training academy in Gurugram. These developments aim to enhance the airline’s operational capacity and training capabilities.
In January 2025, Air India will celebrate the third anniversary of its return to the Tata Group. As part of its Vihaan.AI transformation program, the airline reports progress in fleet modernization. Over 100 new aircraft have been deployed, including Airbus A350s now operating routes from Delhi to London and New York. A third of the twin-aisle fleet has received updated interiors and entertainment systems, with upgrades for the remaining aircraft expected within two years. The single-aisle fleet is undergoing a similar refit, projected for completion by mid-2025.
Air India also announced the merger of four Tata Group airlines, completed in late 2024. The unified entity now operates a fleet of 300 aircraft, serving over 100 domestic and international destinations.
This expansion is part of the company’s broader strategy to enhance its global coverage and strengthen its position in the aviation sector.
