Air India has placed an order for 100 aircraft with Airbus, comprising 90 narrow-body A320 family planes and 10 wide-body A350 aircraft. This follows the airline's significant order last year for 470 planes, which included 250 aircraft from Airbus and 220 from Boeing.
The airline's commercial and transformation officer, Nipun Aggarwal, noted that the company has also secured options to potentially increase its orders by an additional 379 aircraft. This latest acquisition is part of Air India's fleet expansion to accommodate anticipated growth in India's air travel sector.
According to Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons and Air India, the airline's growth strategy is driven by increasing air travel demand in India, supported by infrastructure development and a young demographic. The newly ordered planes aim to strengthen Air India's operations and international competitiveness.
Airbus has already delivered six A350 aircraft to Air India, which now has a total of 344 Airbus planes in its fleet. This move aligns with the company's ongoing transformation initiatives.
