Assam is in discussions to establish an aircraft dismantling plant, according to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Speaking at an event in Pandu, Sarma revealed that a company has proposed setting up a facility to process decommissioned Boeing aircraft in the state, contingent on securing suitable land.
The project remains in the proposal stage, with no agreements finalized. However, the Chief Minister shared the development to emphasize Assam's potential to attract industrial projects.
The proposed facility would process retired aircraft from various locations worldwide, with dismantling and recycling operations based in Assam. While specific investment figures and timelines have not been disclosed, the project aligns with ongoing efforts to position the state as a hub for emerging industries.
Sarma encouraged students to prepare for shifts in the job market driven by advanced technologies, such as machine learning, augmented reality, and quantum physics. He noted that employment opportunities over the next decade are expected to center on these fields.
The proposal reflects Assam's push toward industrial growth and modernization, with an emphasis on creating opportunities in technology-driven sectors.
