GE Aerospace plans to significantly increase its component sourcing from India, citing the country's growing engineering talent and production capabilities as key factors in enhancing its global supply chain. The company already maintains a strong presence in India, including partnerships with 13 major suppliers and operational facilities in Pune and Bengaluru.
According to GE Aerospace, sourcing from India increased 20-fold between 2018 and 2022. The company employs around 3,000 people in the country, and its GEnx engines have surpassed two million flight hours with South Asian airlines. Currently, 90 GEnx engines power wide-body Boeing aircraft for carriers such as Air India and Vistara, with Air India accounting for over 90% of the total flight hours.
GE Aerospace also supplies engines to Indian defense platforms, including the Indian Air Force’s Light Combat Aircraft (Tejas Mk1) and various naval aircraft. Its CFM joint venture with Safran Aircraft Engines powers many narrow-body aircraft in India's civil aviation market.
Despite global supply chain challenges, the company remains optimistic about its future in India.
