PTC Industries to Establish Aerospace-Grade Titanium Sponge Manufacturing Facility in Odisha
PTC Industries has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Odisha to set up an aerospace-grade Titanium Sponge manufacturing facility in the state. The investment is intended to enhance India’s capability in the production of titanium-based materials, which are essential for aerospace, defense, and industrial applications.
Titanium Sponge is a key raw material for manufacturing titanium alloys, widely used in high-performance sectors. Currently, only a few countries, including the United States, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Japan, have the capacity to produce aerospace-grade Titanium Sponge. Despite having significant titanium ore reserves, India has relied on imports for this critical material. The establishment of the new facility aims to strengthen domestic supply and reduce dependency on foreign sources.
PTC Industries, through its subsidiary Aerolloy Technologies, plans to develop an integrated titanium manufacturing value chain. This includes the production of Titanium Sponge, alloy ingots, forged billets, rolled bars, rods, sheets, plates, and precision castings.
The Government of Odisha has committed to supporting the initiative by providing policy incentives and industrial infrastructure. The state’s resource availability and workforce capabilities are seen as key factors in facilitating the project.
Sachin Agarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of PTC Industries, stated that the MoU represents a step toward strengthening India’s titanium manufacturing ecosystem. He acknowledged the role of the Odisha government in enabling the investment and emphasized the potential of the new facility to serve global aerospace and defense industries.
PTC Industries has been involved in the production of precision metal components for over 60 years. Through Aerolloy Technologies, the company manufactures and exports titanium and superalloy castings for aerospace and defense applications. The company is also investing in a new facility in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, aimed at expanding its aerospace casting capabilities and titanium production.
The proposed Titanium Sponge facility in Odisha aligns with broader efforts to enhance domestic manufacturing capacity in strategic materials. The initiative is expected to contribute to India's supply chain resilience in critical industries.
