Pune-based Symbiosis Skills and Professional University (SSPU) has established a School of Defence to address the increasing demand for skilled professionals in the defence sector. The university plans to introduce degree and diploma-level engineering programs to train students for careers in defence manufacturing and technology.
The initiative aligns with the Indian government's efforts to encourage private sector participation in defence manufacturing, with Pune emerging as a key hub for the industry. As part of this development, SSPU hosted Lt Gen Vinod G Khandare, Principal Adviser at the Ministry of Defence, and retired Air Marshal Bhushan Gokhale for discussions on national security and defence strategy.
According to SSPU Pro-Chancellor Swati Mujumdar, the university recently held a roundtable with representatives from over 25 companies to assess industry requirements. Mujumdar stated that these companies have expressed interest in collaborating with SSPU to develop curricula and provide skill-based training for students.
