Thales Showcases AI Capabilities at AI Action Summit
Thales is presenting its artificial intelligence (AI) technologies at the AI Action Summit, highlighting applications in defence, cybersecurity, and infrastructure protection. The company states that its AI is integrated into over 100 products and is designed for enhanced cybersecurity, transparency, and energy efficiency.
Patrice Caine, CEO of Thales, is participating in roundtable discussions on AI and national security, as well as on AI development in Europe. The company’s AI accelerator, cortAIx, will conduct demonstrations on February 11, showcasing AI applications in 15 critical sectors. These include air traffic management, maritime security, and defence, where AI is being applied to operational assets and decision-making processes.
Thales is also participating in the Cyber Crisis Management Exercise hosted by France’s national agency for information system security (ANSSI) at the Cyber Campus in Paris. Additional events include discussions on AI risks and strategic autonomy at forums organised by the Finnish Embassy in Paris and HEC Hub Digital.
The company has been involved in multiple AI-related initiatives, including its participation in the Military Talks organised by the French Ministry of the Armed Forces and the Ministerial Agency for Defence AI (AMIAD). It is also a member of the Confiance.ai consortium, contributing to efforts in AI development at an international scale.
Thales reports that its AI research and development (R&D) division includes over 600 engineers and 100 doctoral candidates. The company has integrated AI into a range of applications such as radars, sonars, and cybersecurity solutions. In 2023, its cybersecurity team participated in the CAID challenge organised by the French defence procurement agency (DGA), focusing on AI data security. For the 2024 challenge, the team has developed a model to detect AI-generated deepfake images.
Thales invests approximately €4 billion annually in R&D across AI, cybersecurity, quantum technologies, cloud computing, and 6G. In 2023, the company reported €18.4 billion in revenue and employed 81,000 people across 68 countries.
